Two black and white koi circle each other, their spotted scales and fanned fins surrounded by dark flower petals, leaves and scattered ink droplets. Three square frames, each holding a small black blossom, take the place of the finder squares. The petal clusters and flecks between the fish carry the dark and light modules. Pure black on a pale ground gives the pattern strong contrast, and the fine line work on the scales and fins keeps detail spread across the whole piece.
